Cummins looking to boost Rovers’ title drive

THE Shamrock Rovers faithful may feel their side could do with more goals and will be hoping that the arrival of Graham Cummins on loan from Cork City will help them in that respect.

It was announced on Sunday evening that the Hoops would be signing of the 31-year-old striker on loan until the end of the season with Joel Coustrain going the other way.

Rovers sign Cummins on loan

Graham Cummins will join Shamrock Rovers on loan from Cork City until the end of the season.

Having become the first player to crack 20 goals in a single season for Cork back in 2011 and hitting the net 14 times in last year’s campaign, Cummins is eager to find his form in front of goal with Rovers.

“I saw a video of the Dundalk game the other night and even just the first ten minutes I loved the style of play,” said the striker.

“The way the ball moves and the midfielders’ movement is exceptional.

“I’ve got to earn the right to play first, but I’m sure they will create a lot of chances for me. But I’ve got to get into the team first and not worry about that.

“I think I’m a hard-working player, I’ll always give everything for the team and I’m always trying to score.”

But goals are not the only thing on Cummins’ mind, he is also targeting silverware despite Rovers now finding themselves eight points adrift of leaders Dundalk following Friday nights 0-1 defeat at the hands of the defending champions at Tallaght Stadium.

“I’m really excited. When I learned that Shamrock Rovers were interested I was really happy about it,” he said.

“After playing Shamrock Rovers a couple of times this season I was really impressed with the way they move the ball and how good they’ve been in the league as well.

“They’re right up there. That is the main reason I’ve come here, to try and win a league because it’s something that I need to do and something that I feel the team can definitely achieve.”

Following Coustrain on the way out of the Tallaght side is Sam Bone, who has linked up with Waterford on loan.
