Dad told he is ‘not setting a very good example for his daughter’

A DAD (33) who was out celebrating his daughter’s first holy communion and was abusive to gardai has been sentenced to 220 hours community service by Blanchardstown District Court.
Hearing that Glen Keogh had also been found in possession of cannabis, Judge David McHugh told the court that Keogh was “not setting a very good example for his daughter”.

Sergeant Maria Callaghan told Judge McHugh that at 11pm on May 25 last, Keogh had been at the Luas Park and Ride at the Red Cow. She said he was abusive to gardai.
Sgt Callaghan said Keogh was holding a can and put it above his head and threatened to throw it at the gardai.
She said Keogh was asked by the gardai to move on and was directed to under the Public Order Act but he failed to do so and was arrested.
Sgt Callaghan said Keogh was later found in possesion of a small amount of cannabis.
Keogh, with an address at Mount Talbot Apartments, Monastery Road, Clondalkin, pleaded guilty to breaching the peace, failing to comply with a garda’s directions and simple possession of cannabis herb at the Luas Park and Ride, Red Cow, Clondalkin, on May 25, 2019.
Sgt Callaghan said Keogh had 12 previous convictions.
On April 8, 2010, he had received a suspended sentence for public order.
At District Court 52 on January 19, 2010, he had been convicted of simple possession and possession of drugs for sale or supply.
Keogh’s solicitor said his client had not been in trouble for 10 years.
Judge McHugh said: “So he breaks out every couple of years or so.”
Keogh’s solicitor said his client is a father of two and on the night in question he had been celebrating his daughter’s first holy communion.
Judge McHugh told the Solicitor: “It’s not setting a good example for his daughter that he was caught with cannabis.”
He said Keogh was “escaping jail by virtue of the fact that he had not been before the courts in 10 years.”
He sentenced Keogh to 220 hours community service with four months jail in default.
