Former Dublin GAA star Denis Bastick will be one of a host of celebrities who will battle it out on the dancefloor in order to be crowned the winner of RTÉ’s Dancing with the Stars Ireland, which will hit TV screens this Sunday.

The popular show, which is now in its third series, puts the celebrities through their paces as they all hope to win the coveted glitterball trophy.

Denis (37), who is from Glenview in Tallaght, told The Echo: “I’ve been rehearsing for the show since before Christmas, I’m enjoying it but it’s tough.

“When I was asked to be on it I was in a bit of shock, but I had watched the show and was very familiar with it, and everybody on it seemed to be enjoying themselves and having a good time.

“I decided to do it, to take a chance and have a new experience.”

Denis said that his previous dancing experience amounted to “zero” but that he was looking forward to the challenge of competing in the show.

“It’s all new to us,” said Denis, “and we’re all trying to figure out what’s going on and what we’re doing!”

Greenhills man Johnny Ward (31), whose acting credits include ‘Love/Hate’, ‘Fair City’ and ‘Copper Face Jacks: The Musical’, will also be competing in Dancing with the Stars.

When previously speaking to The Echo, Johnny said: “It’s so tough, and the live aspect of it is very daunting – there’s no escape [if anything goes wrong].”

You can watch Johnny and Denis, and nine other hopefuls, take centre stage when RTÉ’s Dancing with the Stars Ireland returns to RTÉ One on January 6.
