Darkness Into Light launched in Corkagh

CORKAGH Park’s Darkness Into Light Committee launched their registration drive for this year’s walk in aid of Pieta.

Darkness Into Light 2024, will take place at 4.15am on the morning of Saturday May 11 in Corkagh Park.

The event is important to our committee as it is an opportunity for families and communities to come together and to bring HOPE.

Clondalkin’s Kenneth Egan, Olympic silver medalist and qualified psychotherapist and addiction counsellor joined the DIL 2024 committee to officially launch this year’s event.

Speaking at the launch, Corkagh Park’s Darkness Into Light 2024 ambassador said: “I am a huge supporter of Darkness Into Light and I am proud to work with Pieta and Electric Ireland to support the campaign this year.

“Mental health is a hugely important topic for me and your support will help Pieta ensure they can reach as many people as possible who have been affected by suicide and self-harm’ said Kenneth.

‘This year’s event will be the third walk held locally in Corkagh Park and will be the closest official walk for residents in Clondalkin, Rathcoole, Newcastle, Saggart and Lucan.’

By taking part in Darkness Into Light, participants play an important role in raising vital funds for Pieta’s life-saving suicide prevention services.

Supporters can make a real and tangible difference.

Pieta depends on the funds generated by Darkness Into Light, with over 85% of the charity’s annual income coming from public fundraising.

Pieta’s 300 qualified Therapists, Suicide Bereavement Liaison Officers and support staff across the country rely on this essential income to continue their lifesaving work.

By participating in the event, supporters can make a real and tangible difference, as the €26 sign-up fee for Darkness Into Light can enable Pieta to answer two calls to their 24/7 helpline, providing immediate support and guidance to those in crisis.

Lorraine Nugeny Murphy co-chair of the Committee, urges anyone interested in joining to register quickly as ‘places are filling up fast.’’

If you haven’t signed up, there’s still time, but make sure you do so by 3rd May (Republic of Ireland) to guarantee delivery of your T-Shirts & Participants Passes ahead of the most important sunrise of the year.

The event would never happen if we didn’t have the support of our volunteers and you’re all integral to the operation of Darkness into Light, and in ensuring that @pieta.house continues to provide its essential services.

If you would like to volunteer to help out on the night email ‘I’d like to help’ to corkaghpark@darknessintolight.ie Michelle Byrne co-chair ‘If any businesses would like to make a donation to our refreshment fund or sponsor items for our walk such as torches or solar lights please get in touch with Michelle Byrne co-chair corkaghpark@darknessintolight.ie
