Dealz jobs at risk as parent company moves towards administration

Poundland, or Dealz across Ireland including at The Square and on Belgard Road, has filed notice of its intention to appoint an administrator, with 3,000-plus Irish jobs potentially at risk.

Dealz was bought by the Gordon Brothers in 2025 and has over 70 stores around the country, including two in Tallaght, one in Fonthill Retail Park and one in Nutgrove Retail Park, as well another in Rathfarnham Shopping Centre. All stores across the country are currently operating as normal at the moment.

The Gordon Brothers bought all Dealz and Poundland stores from Pepco Group in 2025 for the price of £1 and launched a sale process in September.

A bid from Northern Ireland property firm Martin Property Group was rejected and is understood to be the only bid made for a takeover.

The company behind the stores filed a notice in the UK High Court on Thursday and there are 10 working days from then until creditors start to take action.

Poundland was founded in 1990 and was popular for selling items at £1 – prices have since moved past that.

Dealz opened its first stores in Ireland in September 2011, and the store in The Square Shopping Centre opened in August 2012 and subsequently opened the store in December 2020.
