Dedicated Easter Chick Ladies raise €16k for Tallaght Hospital

A DEDICATED group of ladies crafted their way to a fundraising feat of €16,000 for age-related healthcare and stroke services in Tallaght University Hospital.

The well-known Easter Chick Ladies raised over €16k through their craft stall in the local hospital over Christmas – and as they handed over the cheque, remembered a compassionate team member who recently passed away.

Last week’s handover of more than €16k saw the volunteer group knit its way past the €100,000 fundraising mark – having now raised an incredible €114,000 for age-related healthcare over the years.

Thanking the team for its commitment, Tallaght University Hospital Foundation (TUHF) said: “The Easter Chick Ladies have long been recognised for their remarkable contributions to the community, and this latest achievement further exemplifies their dedication to making a difference in the lives of others.

“Every cent raised by the group goes directly towards supporting vital healthcare services for the elderly and stroke patients.”

In a heartwarming cheque handover at TUH, Professor Rónán Collins, Professor Seán Kennelly, and Professor Des O’Neill accepted the donation on behalf of the hospital.

“Their presence underscores the significance of the Easter Chick Ladies’ fundraising efforts in advancing healthcare initiatives that benefit countless individuals in need”, TUHF said.

“Over the years they have raised an incredible €114,000.”

Amidst the celebration, the Easter Chick Ladies remembered one of their members, Pauline McDonnell who passed away shortly before Christmas.

Pauline was an integral part of the group, demonstrating “exceptional leadership” alongside Ann Carthy, who founded the Easter Chick Ladies.

According to the group, they pledge to honour Pauline’s memory by “remaining steadfast in their commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others”.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend and fellow Easter Chick Lady, Pauline McDonnell”, Ann Carthy said.

“Her passion, enthusiasm, and unwavering dedication to our cause has left an indelible mark on our hearts and the community we serve.

“While her presence will be greatly missed, her spirit will continue to inspire us as we carry on her legacy of compassion and generosity”.

The Easter Chick Ladies wished to express their gratitude to all supporters, volunteers and donors who have contributed to their fundraising over the years.
