Delegation from UK visit Belgard Amazon Data Centre to get pointers
A DELEGATION from the UK visited a local data centre to get pointers on how to make best use of waste heat generated there.
Blackpool Council sent a delegation to visit the Amazon data centre on the Belgard Road, Tallaght to see how heat produced there is used to heat public buildings.
Deputy Mayor Councillor Alan Hayes (Ind) met the delegation in County Hall before they visited the data centre.
“I met the delegation in County Hall, they then had a technical briefing in the Council followed by a site visit to see the technology in operation,” said the Deputy Mayor.
“The purpose of the visit was to see how South Dublin County Council implemented this [District Heating Systems] scheme,” said the Deputy Mayor.
The Deputy Mayor pointed to the example of the District Heating system scheme in Cloughjordan, Co. Tipperary.
“The difference is that in Cloghjordan the heat is generated by solar and burning wood chip whereas in Tallaght the waste heat is generated from the Amazon server,” said the Deputy Mayor.
“The scheme in Tallaght is at phase one.
“Phase two and three will come hopefully in the coming years which will allow the scheme to scale up and it will mean more public buildings being heated using waste coming from the data centre,” said the Deputy Mayor.
