PUPILS and staff of St Louise de Marillac Primary School, Ballyfermot took part in a special walk to mark the school’s acquisition of its fourth Green Flag.

The latest flag secured by the school is for transport and travel – hence their celebration at the nearby Civic Centre recently.

Alma Quinn, teacher at St Louise’s, said: “Over the past two school years, pupils have worked tirelessly to promote alternatives to driving to school. Initiatives undertaken include WOW (Walk On Wednesday) and Scoot to School days.

“The school has a junior and a senior green school committee, who meet regularly to plan ways to keep the school green and environmentally friendly. The school actively promotes biodiversity in the area by acting as ambassadors for the Brent Geese.

“The school community led by the members of the committee walked from St Louise’s to the Civic Centre in Ballyfermot, where a short celebration took place.

“Children sang the special green school songs they composed. Afterwards the new Green Flag was raised at the school under the watchful eye of pupils, parents and staff.

“A raffle took place for a scooter and helmet with the lucky recipients chosen to raise the flag.”
