Deterioration of stone wall beside apartments causing ‘havoc’ and safety issues

THE deterioration of a stone wall beside an apartment block is causing “havoc” according to a resident, who is asking South Dublin County Council to make remedial repairs.

Resident Darren Hennessy sent an email on June 26 to SDCC and local representatives, regarding the wall and “ongoing anti-social behaviour stemming from this area of St Cuthberts” in Clondalkin.

The wall adjoins St Cuthberts Park with the Rath Geal apartments.

In recent weeks, youths have started the break away loose stones on the wall in recent weeks, and “cause havoc”.

Mr Hennessy says the “public safety issues and dangers of this non secure” wall have been “repeatedly” raised with SDCC Public Realm, with a response that “its up to the residents affected, it’s our private wall to make do or repair themselves.”

“The park is a public place, with management and responsibility of SDCC and residents feel angered that the issues affecting people living by the park , mentally and physically, should be one that we just have to live with or figure out ourselves,” said Mr Hennessy.

“I will be calling on SDCC to reconsider their support in attempting to make some remedial repairs to deter this wave of terror on this community.”

The Echo contacted South Dublin County Council for comment but did not receive a reply at the time of going to print.
