Developer appeals against rejection of 80-bed hotel plan

DEVELOPERS Luke and Brian Comer are appealing a decision to refuse planning permission for their plans for a new 80-bed hotel in Kilmainham.
Ladas Property Company, part of the Comer Group, has asked An Bord Pleanála to overturn last month’s ruling by Dublin City Council to reject their proposal to demolish a vacant used-car dealership building at Kearns Place in Old Kilmainham and construct a six-storey hotel.

In their ruling last month, city planners deemed the proposal “would depreciate the value of property in the vicinity.”
City planners considered the “overly dominant” proposal would appear overbearing and incongruous on the streetscape.
The plans also led to mass objections by local residents who feel the development is too big in scale for the area and that it would have a negative impact on traffic.
Ladas is owned by Real Palm Resource Inc, a British Virgin Islands-domiciled entity.
The site of the proposed hotel is close to tourist attractions Kilmainham Gaol and the Royal Hospital Kilmainham.
A ruling on the appeal with ABP is due by July 7.
