Dodder Valley Litter Mugs collect 45 bags of rubbish

Dodder Valley Litter Mugs, a local Tallaght environmental group, held a clean-up of Dodder Valley Park and the river on Thursday.
The Litter Mugs collaborated with Leave No Trace Ireland to organise the project. Leave No Trace brought a corporate group from Google with them for the clean-up, which Litter Mugs member Christine Barretto called ‘massive’.

Christine said: “We collected over 45 bags of rubbish – it included car parts, drug paraphernalia, basketball nets and loads of household waste.”
More volunteers from Dodder Action and An Taisce Climate Ambassador came to join in.
Dodder Valley Litter Mugs have also been kept busy supporting Dodder Action cleaning events and with a beach clean-out in Bull Wall.
The next Litter Mugs event will be Saturday, July 13. Volunteers and members alike will be meeting in the Old Mill Car Park at 10am.
“I have to say removing the things we did from the river made us quite emotional in a good way, because you can actually imagine how it will positively impact the health of the river and the wildlife that relies on it,” said Christine.
“It is so beautiful down there and the biodiversity along this part of the river is unbelievable. We hope to raise awareness of how it is a small part of our climate crisis that we as average people can try and improve.”
