Don makes a big Impact at Business of the Year Awards

Impact Ireland Metals Ltd CEO and Chairman Don Clarke was announced as the Business Person of the Year at South Dublin County Business Awards 2024.

Speaking at the South Dublin Chamber awards ceremony at the Maldron Hotel in Tallaght on Thursday night, Mr Clarke told host MC Marty Whelan that he was “humbled to be standing here with so many members of the business community.”

“When Impact Metals moved to South Dublin County many years ago, I could not have imagined how the company would have grown to be one of the most successful companies of its type in Ireland and internationally. This success is all down to my colleagues and friends in the company who have made it what it is today. I would like to accept this award on behalf of all of them,” he said.

Mr Clarke also thanked the Local Enterprise Board, South Dublin Chamber, and South Dublin County Council for choosing him, “as there are so many other people that you could have chosen from.”

Last year, Impact Ireland Metals Ltd celebrated 50 years in business.

Headquartered in Cookstown, Tallaght, for all that time, Impact has been a significant employer in the area, with many staff living locally.

The company started as a modest provider of metals to the local market and has become Ireland’s premier multi-metal stockholder and distributor and a significant global trader of high-quality metals and engineering plastics.

Mr Clarke started his career in the company in the early days as a junior sales representative, travelling the country roads of Ireland in the 80s and has guided the company through many challenges and significant business successes.

The company opened its doors in Belfast and in Cork but HQ has always remained in Tallaght.

Their Engineering Plastics facility opened in 2020, also in Cookstown, and it has developed into a busy stockholding and cutting facility.

Supported by Enterprise Ireland, the international division has markets worldwide and ships directly from Tallaght to many places worldwide.
