Drama student Amelia (14) was super talented and fun

TRIBUTES have been paid to a Firhouse teenager who passed away suddenly after a medical emergency when she was in the Connemara Gaeltacht.

Amelia Belle Ferguson, 14, passed away in Galway on Thursday, June 13, and had a pre-existing medical condition.

She was a pupil in Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh in Rathfarnham, and she was a popular drama student in the Tallaght-based Dizzy Footwork Dance Academy.

In a post on their Facebook page, the directors of the dance academy paid tribute to Amelia and offered condolences to her family.

“We are absolutely heartbroken to hear the extremely sad news of the sudden passing of our beautiful drama student Amelia Belle Ferguson,” they wrote.

“Amelia has been part [of] our Dizzy family since day one, super talented, fun and always with a smile on her face. We will miss our Monday chats. How lucky we were to know her.

“Sending so much love and support to her family, mam Suzi, dad Brian and little sister Poppy.”

The creative young woman formerly attended the Scoil Rince Ni Aogain Irish dancing school in Tallaght, with staff expressing their devastation at her loss in a tribute on social media.

The school refers to their students as ‘butterflies’, and they noted the impact Amelia had during her time in Scoil Rince Ni Aogain.

“We have recently lost our past butterfly, the beautiful Amelia Ferguson, and are truly lost for words,” wrote staff from the Irish dancing school.

“Amelia was kind, bubbly, determined and friendly. Her smile lit up every room and we have very fond memories of her of her time as a butterfly with us.

“She always tried her best and took to dancing like a duck to water.

“She competed at local, regional and national and international level and succeeded at every opportunity she took as a butterfly.

“Spread your wings and fly Amelia, you will be so, so greatly missed. Lots of love from your butterfly family.”

A service to celebrate Amelia’s life was held in the Temple in Newlands Cross last Thursday, June 20, followed by burial in Bohernabreena Cemetery.

Amelia Belle Ferguson, loving and adored daughter of Suzi and Brian and beloved big sister and best friend to Poppy.

Amelia will be forever loved and very sadly missed by her heartbroken parents, sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, her wide circle of friends and neighbours.
