Drimnagh Road pub cordoned off after discovery of suspect package

Drimnagh Road was closed for a number of hours this afternoon, Wednesday, February 21, following a suspect device which was found in a building near the Black Forge Inn.

Gardai and an army bomb disposal unit were on the scene, and traffic was closed in both directions – inbound diverted to Walkinstown, outbound to Errigal Road.

AA Roadwatch advised motorists to expect delays, as traffic was congested in surrounding roads whilst authorities carried out an investigation.

Dublin Bus put a diversion is in place for routes 18, 27, 56s, 77a and 151, but they expect services to operate through Drimnagh at 6pm.

Roads reopened shortly after 4.30pm but gardai remained at a cordoned off scene near the Black Forge Inn.

In a statement to The Echo, a Garda spokesperson said that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal was requested to attend the premises.

As a result, road closures were implemented at the scene with local diversions put in place.

Hours later, Drimnagh Road was reopened said the Gardai.
