Driver receives no points for effort when stopped by Gardai
There were no marks given for effort when gardai stopped a car over the weekend – with the motorist taking a DIY approach to updating their tax disc.
Gardai stopped the driver in Galway and discovered that they had changed the expiry date from 03-16 to 08-18.
Well, what can we say…..no marks for effort and two marks on the disk, equals Fraud… pic.twitter.com/VkJcRVJOCs

Galway: Stopped holding mobile phone while driving. DIY tax disc. Altering a tax disc is fraud and results in stiffer penalties in court.

The fact that a vehicle cannot be taxed for more 12 months seemed to be lost on the driver too, with a disc containing the expiry date of 08-18 not currently in circulation.
Added to this, the driver was originally stopped for using a mobile phone.
In a message from gardai they said: “Well, what can we say…..no marks for effort and two marks on the disk, equals Fraud…
