Driver who fled Luas crash scene is later arrested

A DRIVER who fled the scene of a collision between their car and a Luas tram on Cookstown Way in Tallaght yesterday, Wednesday, May 29, has since been located and arrested.

The incident occurred at approximately 5.25pm, and footage shared on social media shows the driver trying to leave the scene with a punctured front tyre and a damaged bonnet.

Another motorist in a van attempted to block their escape, before the driver then reversed and drove down the adjacent footpath and left the scene.

A garda spokesperson told The Echo: “Gardaí attended the scene of a road traffic collision involving a car and a Luas tram which occurred at Cookstown Way, Tallaght, Dublin 24 yesterday, Wednesday, May 29.

“The incident occurred at approximately 5.25pm. There were no reports of injuries.

“The car failed to remain at the scene but was later located.

A man (30s) who was arrested in relation to the incident has since been charged and will appear in court at a later date.”
