Dublin Senior Football Championship Round-up

2020 finalists Ballyboden St Enda’s sent out a significant statement of intent at Parnell Park on Sunday with a comprehensive 2-17 to 0-8 victory against Raheny in Group One of the Dublin Senior One Football Championship.

Despite being just two points clear at half-time (0-7 to 0-5), ‘Boden powered forward after the resumption with goals from Warren Egan and Dublin senior panellist Colm Basquel. Basquel’s brother Ryan, Conal Keaney and Simon Lambert were also amongst the scorers as Anthony Rainbow’s side laid down a serious marker.

‘Boden’s most recent final triumph at this grade was against Thomas Davis in 2019. Davis’ had been within sight of a Group Three win over Ballymun Kickhams at the same venue on Friday, only for the reigning champions to eventually turn the tables on the Tallaght men.

With Eoin Kirby kicking four points to supplement a blistering goal by Dublin senior hurler Davy Keogh, Davis’ led 1-9 to 1-4 on 41 minutes.

However, a 0-5 haul off the bench from Dean Rock was enough to get ‘Mun over the line in the end.

Ballinteer St John’s suffered a five-point defeat to St Vincent’s (1-18 to 2-10) in Group Two on Sunday, while St Jude’s and Lucan Sarsfields played out an entertaining draw (1-14 apiece) in Group Four.

Semi-finalists in last year’s competition, Templeogue Synge Street kick-started their Dublin Senior Two Football Championship Group Three campaign with a 0-15 to 0-9 success over St Sylvester’s at Dolphin Park on Sunday.

With former Sky Blues star Eoghan O’Gara dovetailing effectively with his brother Killian and Ger Vickery in attack, TSS were able to keep their Malahide counterparts at arm’s length.

Max Fitzgerald, Connor Curran and Fintan Dignam excelled on their championship debuts, while Conal Cunningham and Sean McCormack chipped in with some fine scores.

There were also bright starts for St Anne’s and St Mary’s, Saggart, who had respective victories over Ballyboughal (Group One) and Naomh Olaf (Group Four) on Sunday.
