DUBLIN: Young man dies and another seriously injured in motorcycle crash

An investigation is underway after an 18-year-old male motorcyclist died when the bike he was driving collided with a lamp post in Coolock.

Another man (23), a pillion passenger on the motorbike, was seriously injured and is being treated at the Mater Hospital.

The fatal crash happened in Clarehall this afternoon at approximately 4:20pm.

In a statement this evening, a Garda spokesperson said: “An 18-year-old male motorcyclist was fatally injured when his motor cycle collided with a lamp post.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body removed to Beaumont Hospital.

“A 23-year-old male pillion passenger was seriously injured and has been taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.

“This stretch of road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.”
