Dynamos capture National Under 18 Shield
OBLATE Dynamos raised the Under 18 Girls National Shield following a 63-56 point victory over UL Huskies in the decider on Sunday in Inchicore.
Having previously lost out to DCU Mercy in the Dublin Cup Final earlier this year, the Oblate girls headed into this game more determined than ever to prevail.
They made a very strong start, limiting UL to no more than four points in the first quarter as they opened up a 15-point gap by the halftime break.
UL Huskies, never-theless, refused to let up and maintained their intensity with a full court press, yet Oblates re-grouped and, with the aid of some brilliant rebounding from Captain Ellie Thornton and Ciara White, they regained control
Claire Quinn Nealon netted 19 points and Ciara White contributed another 11 points to help see the Drimnagh outfit over the finish line.
“It was a brilliant way to finish the season; with gold” said a delighted Oblate Dynamos coach Claire Kiernan.
“This Oblate team has worked hard all season and the girls’ determination and true grit has paid off. I am so happy for them and proud of them too” she added.
