#EchoSportAwards Tonight we celebrate the achievements of our local athletes

THE ECHO 2016 Team and Sports Star of the Year Award winners will be announced at tonight’s (Thursday) annual presentation gala, taking place in the Green Isle Hotel.

Now in its eighth year, these Awards, which are run in conjunction with our partners The South Dublin County Sports Partnership (SDCSP) and the Green Isle Hotel, seek to recognise and reward achievement and hard work in the area of amateur sport in the locality.

Every month for the past year a Sports Star and Team have been nominated on the merits of their achievement that particular month, meaning we have 12 contenders in each field.

A multi-sports competition, this year’s Echo Amateur Sports Awards now boasts a fiercely competitive line-up in both fields, representing a wide range of disciplines such as athletics, swimming, soccer, mountain bike racing, kickboxing, taekwondo, hockey, canoeing, sailing, tenpin bowling, motorsport, GAA, basketball, golf and gymnastics.

All our nominees for the Team and Sports Star of the Year titles, because of their determination, hard work and sheer talent, have undoubtedly earned their place in the line-up, making for an exciting night.

Also on the programme will be the announcement of The Echo Coach of the Year, Sports Volunteer of the Year, Emerging Athlete of the Year, Club Development of the Year and Club of the Year winners, along with the latest inductee into The Echo Sports Hall of Fame.

Also supporting this year’s Amateur Sports Awards are The Volunteer Centre, Phone Pulse, Tax Assist, South Dublin Chamber and TJ O’Mahony’s.
