Elderly man dragged from car and attacked with knife in Tallaght

Gardai are investigating a terrifying incident which took place in Tallaght in which an elderly man was dragged from his car by two muggers and attacked with a knife.

The incident took place last Wednesday night in the Deerpark estate, and left the man with a severed finger, which had to be removed by surgeons, and wounds to his face and neck, according to reports.

The 85-year-old man was injured as he attempted to defend himself against the two attackers, believed to be a man and a woman, at approximately 10:15pm, with reports suggesting the victim managed to disarm one of the attackers.

It is believed the man spent five days in hospital and had to undergo a blood transfusion.

A garda spokesperson confirmed to Echo.ie that officers in Tallaght are investigating the incident and they have urged anyone who may have witnessed the attack to come forward.

The spokesperson said: “Gardai at Tallaght are investigating an incident of robbery from a person which occurred at Deerpark Rise at 10.15pm on 22nd February, 2017. 

“A man received non-life threatening injuries in the incident.

“It is believed a man and woman were involved in the robbery.

“Anyone with information in relation to this incident are asked to contact Tallaght garda station 01-6666000.”
