ON ITS 10th birthday, The Streat Café will close its doors after a decade of serving the community.

Leaving behind a loyal customer base, The Streat’s last day will be on Saturday, August 3 when the café in The Square closes at 6pm for the final time.

Located on the second floor of the local shopping centre, the open plan café has been a hotspot for people of all ages since it first opened back in September 2009.

Franchisee’s Derek and Aisling Mullins, who are originally from Clondalkin, are closing the popular café just 18 months after shutting The Streat in Citywest Shopping Centre – which was their original luncheonette.

Speaking to The Echo before the closing, Derek spoke of how they were stepping aside to focus on their family once the lease finishes up.

“We are closing on August 3, then we have about a week to clean everything out,” he said.

“Myself and my wife Aisling just decided that we weren’t going to renew the lease, that’s it really – we’re just going to focus on the family for a while.

Mr Mullins bowed out with a message for the customers who have popped in over their decade of service.

“The customers are great; they have been so supportive over the past 10 years and we’ll certainly be keeping in touch with a few of them,” he said.

“I just want to say a massive ‘thank you’ to them for the support – it didn’t go unnoticed.”
