ESB pole catches fire causing power outage

EQUIPMENT failure on a voltage pole resulted in a fire causing a power outage to 185 ESB customers in the Ballyfermot area on Monday night.

Two units from Dublin Fire Brigade in Dolphins Barn attended the fire on Sarsfield Road and made the scene safe to allow ESB Networks crew repair the damage.

A spokesperson for ESB Networks told The Echo: “ESB Networks can confirm that an outage took place in Ballyfermot last night at approximately 8:30 pm, impacting on 185 customers.

“The outage was caused by an equipment failure on a low voltage pole, which was initially sparking and resulted in a minor fire on the pole. Our fire brigade colleagues, in liaison with our call operators, were quick on the scene.

“ESB Networks crews also mobilised quickly, making to the area safe and working through the evening on repairs, finally restoring power to all customers in the early hours of the morning. We apologise to customers for the obvious inconvenience caused”.

Power was restored to customers at around 3am this morning according to ESB.

Dublin Fire Brigade said: “Two units from Dolphins Barn attended the scene on Sarsfield Road and made the area safe”.
