Esker Celtic host superb Tony Curran Memorial Tournament

ESKER Celtic played host to another successful Tony Curran Memorial Tournament in Hermitage Park on Saturday.

Now in its third year, the competition is played in memory of a team manager who passed away suddenly during his short time in the club.

This year’s edition saw the likes of St Mochtas, Peamount, Cabinteeley, St Kevins Boys, Greystones United and Collinstown as well as the host club represented.

It was Peamount and Collinstown who made it to the Challenge Cup decider, with the Newcastle side emerging 3-1 winners.

The Shield final, meanwhile, saw both the Esker A and B teams battle it out, with the former carding a 3-0 victory.

The trophies and medals were presented to the finalists by Tony’s wife Catherine who has been present for each of the tournaments so far.

“The football was excellent and each team represented their clubs with pride” said Esker Club Chairperson Paul Cleary.

“The two finals were very competitive. Well done to all the teams and we look forward to the tournament again in 2018” he added.
