Excavation work to begin at Chapelizod site in relation to Trevor Deely disappearance

A dig is set to begin at a three acre site in Chapelizod today in relation to the disappearance of Trevor Deely who went missing on December 8, 2000.

Mr Deely, from Naas in County Kildare, was 22-years-of-age at the time, and on Saturday Gardai began sealing off the wooded area, which is owned by South Dublin County Council.

The search of the lands comes after new information was received by Gardai in relation to Mr Deely’s disappearance.

Enhanced CCTV footage was released in April of this year, which showed Mr Deely speaking with a man near the Bank of Ireland office where he worked at Wilton Place.

He was last seen crossing the Baggot Street Bridge and walking in the direction of Haddington Road in Dublin city centre.

A full review of the cold case began in December 2016, with a new investigation team re-interviewing witnesses and re-examining evidence.
