FAI accept Kenny’s explanation regarding pre-England match video

IT APPEARS that Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny can fully focus on footballing matters now after the FAI insisted that they consider the issue of a controversial video shown to the squad ahead of their recent friendly against England now closed.
A report in the Daily Mail had suggested that elements of a historical nature included in the video were anti-English while other sources are believed to have interpreted it as merely pro-Irish.
Yet after an inquiry into the matter, the FAI have indicated that no further action is required.
The statement from the Association read ‘Earlier this week issues regarding content shared with the senior Ireland men’s team ahead of the recent friendly against England at Wembley Stadium were brought to the attention of the FAI.
‘Following this development, the FAI decided it was appropriate to look into the matter. Since then the FAI has had discussions with a number of staff members and players, including the team manager, Stephen Kenny.
‘The Board has accepted the explanations provided and considers that the matter is now closed.’
This will be welcome news for Kenny with the Tallaght man eager to focus on next year’s World Cup qualifiers, the draw for which will take place on December 7.
