Award-winning family-owned The Village Butcher in Ranelagh has opened a second shop in Firhouse, which officially opened at the end of January after an extensive re-fit – and with support from a new online, business fundraising platform.

The husband and wife team are passionate about using the highest quality produce to make healthy food choices, sourcing their range from small, Irish, artisan producers around the country.

The Village Butcher, which has won multiple awards in competitions including the McKenna Best in Ireland, a Taste of Leinster and a Taste of Ireland, also has a dedicated protein range in store and has teamed up with Strongbodies in Firhouse to further expand this range – which includes products such as chicken, quinoa and kale burgers.

According to Sarah Kelly, of The Village Butcher: “There are few butchers with the knowledge and skill Michael has in choosing and cutting the best cuts of beef and lamb, it’s this skill, and our commitment to supplying our customers with the highest quality meat, that has allowed us to grow a great customer base, and expand to Firhouse.

“We are absolutely delighted to be setting up shop in Firhouse.

“The local community has made us feel so welcome, and we really look forward to building this relationship.

“Being part of the community and providing the best service to our customers is extremely important to us.

“Our Firhouse store will open on Sundays and we will be extending our opening hours in the coming months; we will also be holding a monthly draw for our customers, to win a €100 voucher.”

The couple were supported in their expansion and re-fit of the Firhouse premises by Linked Finance, Ireland’s leading peer-to-peer lending company, which raised, through its online lending platform, €30,000 for The Village Butcher.

Linked Finance brings a new “viable alternative” to borrowing from banks, where people with savings can connect and lend to trustworthy businesses that wish to borrow. Over the past three years, Linked Finance has helped more than 500 businesses nationwide to raise funding to meet their business objectives, with 16 different businesses in Dublin 24 being supported through a total of €384,000 in raised funds.

Sarah Kelly said: “A core part of our business is supporting small Irish producers and businesses, and this is a value we share with Linked Finance and Linked Finance investors.

“The process of raising funds on the platform was effective, fast and hassle-free, and the perfect option for SMEs, like ourselves, to raise funding so we continue to grow our business.”

Niall Dorrian, CEO of Linked Finance, said: “We are delighted to support The Village Butcher as they expand their business with the establishment of a second premises in Firhouse.

“They are exactly the kind of hungry, innovative Irish business that Linked Finance investors love to support. The drive of SMEs like The Village Butcher, their dedication to growing their business, and their passion for supporting other Irish businesses is essential to the continued recovery of the Irish economy.”
