February Sports Star of the Month: Rhasidat Adeleke
TALLAGHT’S Rhasidat Adeleke has been declared The Echo Sports Star of the Month for February after she broke the Irish Junior 400m indoor record when racing in the US last month.
Representing the University of Texas at the nearby Sports Performance Center, the talented 18-year-old registered a superb time of 53.44 in the Big 12 Championship.

This helped her to secure a sixth-place finish in the race, just under two seconds behind eventual winner Stacey Ann Williams (51.60).
Following that tremendous performance, she was ranked third fastest amongst European Under 20 athletes, behind Kennedy Simon and Shalysa Wray and 16th on the European Under 20 Indoor all-time list.
A former student of Presentation Community College in Terenure, Adeleke was a gold medallist at the European Athletics Under 18 Championships in 2018 before following that up with a double gold at the European Youth Olympics a year later.
