Fettercairn Community and Youth Centre have starred in a heart-warming television ad ahead of Christmas, showing just how alive community spirit is in the area.

The community centre was chosen to feature in the Woodies DIY Christmas ad and were given a makeover for the festive season, with the retailer providing the centre with a tree and decorations.

The ad celebrates the role and importance of community centres in young people’s’ lives.

Manager for the Community and Youth Centre, Shay L’Estrange features in the ad and explains the importance of working with local kids.

He says: “I always enjoy working with children. I got more satisfaction out of that than I could have ever got.

“If you see them succeeding in something, you do get that sense of pride.”

According to Shay, Christmas is one of the biggest events that the centre runs and the ad shows just how excited the kids are.

“The kids are great fun when they’re doing anything like that,” Shay says. “They just love getting into it.”

“This area in Fettercairn, it has a fantastic sense of community. And the people – the men, the women, the children – they all buy into that.

“The best way to describe Christmas is that ability to bring people together.”
