Figures revealed highest birth rates in the country locally
THE Tallaght South and Firhouse-Bohernabreena Local Electoral Areas had the first and fourth highest birth rates respectively in the country in 2021, according to recently released figures.
The data was released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) last week, when it published its birth and death findings for 2021.
Nationally, Tallaght South had the joint highest birth rate with Ongar in Fingal at 15.3 births per 1,000 population, rising above the overall national average of 11.5.
The Firhouse-Bohernabreena LEA had the fourth highest birth rate nationally, with 14.5 births per 1,000 population.
Both areas also placed highly in terms of the ‘the natural increase’ metric, which calculates the natural increase in population by calculating births minus deaths.
Tallaght South and Firhouse-Bohernabreena were in the top three areas nationally with the highest natural increase, with a respective increase of 11.1 and 10.8 per 1,000 population.
In contrast to this, the Rathfarnham-Templeogue ward had one of the lowest natural population increases in the country, with an increase of only 0.4 per 1,000 population.
