Finn is hoping that Hoops can pick up where they left off

SHAMROCK Rovers captain Ronan Finn is hoping the Hoops can pick up where they left off when the Airtricity League gets back up and running.
Stephen Bradley’s men made a blistering start to their campaign, winning all of their opening five games in the Premier Division that included a thrilling 3-2 triumph over defending champions Dundalk.

It served to put them three points clear at the top, yet Finn has warned that the Tallaght side had found themselves in an even better position last season before throwing it all away.
Indeed they had enjoyed a 13 point lead at one stage last season only to fall victim to a Dundalk resurgence that saw the Lilywhites eventually take the title with four games to spare.
“Hopefully the plan is, when we get back up and running, that we can pick up where we left off” said Finn.
“It’s not going to be as easy as saying that, but it’s a young group, it’s a good group and it’s focused. It’s a professional group and everybody would have looked after themselves.
“I mean it’s still going to be a very, very difficult season. We’ve had a good start but that’s all it is. We had a good start last season and it all got away so we’ve got to learn from that experience and carry on” he stressed.
Rovers did, nevertheless, end that season on a high when they beat Dundalk to land the club’s first FAI Cup title in 32 years.
“We’ve tasted that bit of success last year and it gives you the drive to get more, but it’s not going to be easy” he added.
The FAI has authorised a new pathway for a Safer Return to Football for SSE Airtricity League and Women’s National League clubs that will allow them to return to full contact training and play friendly matches from June 29th in accord-ance with new Government guidelines.
