Five-a-day photos raise mental health awareness

By Maurice Garvey

YOUNG people used images to raise awareness of mental health during a photography competition at the Jigsaw Clondalkin centre.

The competition was based on ‘five-a-day for mental health’ – a useful framework in being pro-active for mental health. The five ways to wellbeing are based on evidence about what promotes and supports our mental health according to the UK-based New Economics Foundation.

Young people were asked to put their creative eye to the test and capture a strong image that linked the idea of five-a-day for mental health services.

Jigsaw Clondalkin thanked everyone who took the time to enter their fantastic entries.

It was a challenge to narrow down the favourites, but three winners were announced as Endija Lasmane, Emma McCallion, and group entry winners Endija Lasmane and her younger Armand Lasmane.

Their images will be framed and mounted in the Jigsaw hub.

Jigsaw Clondalkin is a service provided by Jigsaw (The National Centre for Youth Mental Health) and provides a safe and confidential space where young people aged 12-25 can avail of free one-to-one support.

The service is available to young people living in Clondalkin, Lucan, Palmerstown and Newcastle. Jigsaw also supports concerned adults by providing advice, information and signposting.
