Foodbank is on the lookout for a new home

CLONDALKIN helping the Homeless are facing homelessness.

This development has come as a bolt from the blue for its Chair, Councillor Francis Timmons (Ind).

“We were shocked to receive a letter from Bawnogue Community centre requesting we move from our current Clondalkin Helping [the] Homeless and those in need foodbank location in the community centre by the June bank holiday,” he said.

Cllr Timmons is very concerned for the future of the foodbank.

“I am very concerned that the voluntary foodbank that serves many local families is at risk if we can’t find a new suitable home! Clondalkin Helping Homeless is now in its tenth year and has always adjusted to meet the changing local need[s]. We have over 10 years endeavoured to meet the many complex local needs,” said Cllr Timmons.

While Cllr Timmons has contacted South Dublin County Council to seek their help in finding a base, he also issued an appeal on behalf of the foodbank.

“We are appealing to anyone that can help us secure a permanent base for Clondalkin Helping Homeless, the service is vital to many struggling families”, he said.

The foodbank assists people in the Dublin mid-west area and deliveries are made by volunteers. Up to 80 families avail of this service, Cllr Timmons previously told The Echo.
