SOUTH Dublin County Council (SDCC) and South Dublin Libraries in partnership with Áras Chrónáin are delighted to bring you this year’s Seachtain na Gaeilge Átha Cliath Theas (SnaGÁCT).

SnaGÁCT festival was launched officially on Tuesday at Ballyroan Library by Mayor Emma Murphy joined by former Dublin manager Jim Gavin, patron of this year’s festival, along with pupils from local primary schools.

The programme will run from March 1-17.

This year’s packed calendar has events for everyone and to suit all ages, including a special gig with KILA on Friday, March 10 in Áras Chrónáin, Intensive Spoken Irish Weekend Course with Ray McManus in Áras Chrónáin, Spoken Irish classes in Libraries across the County, Pop – Up Gaeltacht and an evening of Music and Dance on St Patrick’s Night in Áras Chrónáin.

This year there will also be parades throughout the county, traditional Irish music sessions, and of course coffee mornings in various locations, all organised by South Dublin County Council Libraries and Áras Chrónáin, Ionad Cultúir.

The local authority is proud to support Seachtain na Gaeilge and is leading the way in promoting the campaign ‘Gaeilge le Chéile’ by creating more opportunities and encouraging people to use and speak Irish every day, starting with the simple phrases like ‘Go raibh maith agat’ and ‘Slán’, and using the theme ‘Everyday, Everywhere with Everyone’.

Speaking at the launch, Mayor Emma Murphy said: “We are proud to support the campaign Gaeilge le Chéile by creating and encouraging more opportunities to use Irish every day, starting with the simple phrases like ‘Go raibh maith agat’ and ‘Dia Dhuit’ and by using the theme Everyday, Everywhere with Everyone.

“Overall we want to promote Irish as a living language in a fun, enjoyable, and open way.”

This year’s Patrúin SnaGÁCT, Jim Gavin, was delighted to launch the event along with Mayor Murphy and said: “There are over 100 events being organised throughout South Dublin County this year.

I would like to thank everyone who helped in putting together the calendar. It is a great opportunity for us all to use more spoken Irish.”
