A MONTH long programme of free events is happening in Cherry Orchard throughout the month of April.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin Alison Gilliland officially launched ‘Cherry Blossoms 2022’ in The Cherry Orchard Equine Centre this week.

Members of the public are invited to come and take part in various free events including line dancing, an Easter egg hunt, a fun run or even some circus training.

‘Cherry Blossoms 2022’ is organised by Dublin City Council, Ballyfermot Partnership and a wide range of community groups.

“I am delighted to be in Cherry Orchard today to launch Cherry Blossoms 2022,” said the Lord Mayor Alison Gilliland.

“Cherry blossoms are a symbolic flower of the spring and represent a time of renewal. After a long hard winter, it’s lovely to be able to gather again. I know Cherry Orchard has a vibrant caring community and I’m sure this month long celebration of all that is good and positive in the area will be a great success.”

Community staff, volunteers, community groups, local residents associations and environmental groups are all taking part in the programme. Each group plays an important part in ensuring that people living in the area are connected to the supports they require.

Cllr Daithí Doolan (SF) said: “Cherry Blossoms is a wonderful initiative by community groups, city councillors, gardai and Dublin City Council. We will be organising over 40 events for the month of April. The events will be free and will show off everything that is good about Cherry Orchard.

“So far we can confirm a food festival, holistic morning, Walkers Talkers, Creepy Crawley Cherry Talk, football tournament, line dancing, Croftwood Wise Women Art Memorial, Youth circus open day and much, much more

“I would encourage everyone to come out and enjoy these free events. Keep an eye out for the full brochure coming through your letter-box.”

All the events are free of charge but some may require pre-booking.
