Friends to run a virtual mini -marathon to raise money for Aware

By Mary Dennehy

THIS Sunday two friends are embarking on a virtual mini-marathon to raise money for charity, Aware – and everyone’s invited to take part.

Gemma O’Shea, the manager of Fit4Less in Tallaght, and her friend Laura Stynes, who lives in Kingswood, are embarking on an individual 10km challenge this Sunday.

The friends had hoped to take part in this weekend’s mini-marathon before it was cancelled due to Covid-19 guidelines.

This Sunday, Gemma and Laura will take on 10km to raise money for Aware, which provides support and information for people who experience depression, anxiety or bipolar disorder and their loved ones.

Speaking with The Echo, Gemma invited people to take part in the virtual mini-marathon and to walk, jog or run 10km for Aware this Sunday.

“Anybody who would like to take part can walk or run 10km at any time this Sunday”, Gemma said.

“The virtual mini-marathon will take place all day on Sunday and people can tag us on Instagram in their pictures.”

Gemma stressed that the 10kms can be done at any time over Sunday, May 31, to facilitate social distancing and to ensure that people taking part within the same community are not all out at the same time.

People are invited to make a donation to Aware or take part in the virtual mini-marathon for the charity.

Everybody who makes a donation will be entered into a raffle for a €100 One4all voucher.

“We chose Aware as it’s a non-profit and needs funds now more than ever”, Gemma said.

Anybody who takes part is invited to tag gem_feelgoodfitness on Instagram.
