Frost and Ryan make cut for World Championships

KATE FROST from Templeogue has qualified for the World Badminton Championships in the women’s doubles with her partner Moya Ryan.

The two made the cut when the second phase list went up meaning they will now travel to Huelva in Spain this coming December for their first World Championship.

“We are extremely happy to have qualified for the World Championships” Frost told The Echo.

“It has been a goal of mine for some time now and it will be great to play in an event which I went to as a spectator as a child and most recently in 2017.

“Moya and myself have had some good results this year, since tournaments recommenced after Covid.

“Breaking into the top 100 in the World rankings for the first time, qualifying for our first individual European Championships and now our first World Championships.

“We now sit at 89 in the World rankings, so we are hoping to break the top 75 by the end of the year. That’s the goal anyway and, with a number of tournaments to contest still, it is possible.

“It has been a good year and we are looking to build on this for the future” she added.

Earlier this month, Frost combined with Ryan to land the Women’s Doubles title at the Irish National Badminton Championships in Blanchardstown where she also reached the singles decider.

And the TUD Tallaght player will have plenty more competition to look forward to with this week’s Dutch Open followed by the French Open, running from October 25-30.

After that it will be on to Germany for the Hylo Open from November 2-7 and then back home for the Irish Open (November 17-20) ahead of the Scottish Open (November 25-29) and the World Championships in Spain the following month.
