Funding boost for South Dublin Taekwondo

SOUTH Dublin Taekwondo has recently been selected as one of 30 grassroots sports clubs from across Ireland to receive support through the 2026 SPAR and EUROSPAR Community Fund.

The Tallaght based club represented Dublin among the successful recipients with the club included alongside a diverse range of sports and community organisations from around the country.

The total Community fund totals €60,000 with South Dublin Taekwondo receiving €2,000 as part of this.

Sports Clubs across Ireland were invited to demonstrate how they were “Hungry for Success” highlighting the work taking place within their organisations and how additional support could contribute to their continued development.

SDTKD was recognised for its ongoing contribution to the community and for demonstrating how the club continues to be “Hungry for Success” through the development of its training facility, its coaches and the opportunities available to its members.

Prospective winners were assessed by a judging panel led by renowned Irish sports commentator George Hamilton.

The 30 successful recipients represent a broad cross section of Irish sport which includes athletics, football, swimming, basketball, rowing, cycling, boxing, weightlifting, kayaking, para badminton, powerchair football, volleyball and taekwondo.

SDTKD representatives attended the first of three regional presentation events at Lawlor’s Hotel in Naas with further events taking place in Galway and Cork.

The funding received by South Dublin Taekwondo will go towards assisting the ongoing costs of operating its dedicated training venue in Tallaght, the continued education and upskilling of its coaches along with the development of future coaches who can help continue sharing the Olympic sport of Taekwondo within the local community.

A spokesperson from the club touched on the success.

“We are very grateful to SPAR and EUROSPAR and to the judging panel for selecting South Dublin Taekwondo as one of the 30 clubs from around the country.”

“We have been part of the Tallaght community since the club was founded in 2008, and having our own dedicated training venue has allowed us to continually develop what we can offer our members.

‘This support will assist with the ongoing costs of running our facility, while also helping us to continue investing in the education and development of our coaches and future coaches.”

“Developing coaches is an important part of the club’s future and helps us to continue sharing the Olympic sport of Taekwondo and providing opportunities within our local community.

‘It was also great to meet representatives from so many other grassroots sports clubs and to hear about the work taking place in communities throughout the country.”
