GAA club is seeking planning permission for a pergola extension

BALLYBODEN St Enda’s GAA Club is seeking planning permission for a pergola extension at its clubhouse on the Firhouse Road.

The proposed development consists of a single-storey extension of 130.95sq.m with fully retractable roof above, to the front of the existing clubhouse, as it faces the car park.

This is to create an internal/external terrace with a small serving area for snacks, teas and coffees and a seating area for the use by the club members.

The development will also result in the reorganisation of the car park, resulting in the loss of five spaces, as well as the provision of additional bicycle parking spaces.

A cover letter lodged with the planning application states: “The use of the pergola-like terrace extension will enable the members of the club to enjoy improved and extended facilities.

“The pergola extension will create an informal setting outside of the clubhouse with tea station that will allow on warm summer days for the pergola to be used by members.

“It is not intended to be used beyond normal operating hours of the clubhouse, and therefore will not be used outside of these times.

“This will ensure that noise generation will be minimal, and due to its location at a significant distance from houses, the pergola extension with retracting roof will not negatively impact local residential amenity in either direction.”

A decision on the application is due from South Dublin County Council by September 10.
