Gang making lives of Tallaght apartment tenants ‘absolute hell’

A RESIDENT of a Killinarden apartment complex has described the “absolute hell” she is living in as a result of a gang of youths in Mount Seskin Court Apartments.
The young mother, who has requested anonymity for fear of intimidation, has said that the group has vomited and urinated in the hallways of the apartment complex, intimidated and threatened residents, and have thrown stones and eggs at the residents.
She added that the group smears the gate of the apartment complex with curry and garlic sauce in order to obstruct residents from gaining access.
“Last Friday the group were here all night drinking and doing cocaine,” she explained. “They’ve burnt out cars and smashed up the apartment gates.
“They’ve even spray-painted the security cameras.
“I come home and I’m nearly crying because it’s so bad.”
She added that when they burn out cars the smoke gets into the apartment complex, and that the group have broken into two empty apartments and frequently throw broken tiles and stones out of those apartment windows.
“Anytime I try to complain nothing has happened,” she said.
The young mother added that she has called the Gardai on numerous occasions, but they don’t come over to the apartment block.
She added that in one instance the Gardai moved a burnt-out car from near the apartment complex but still didn’t come into the complex.
Tallaght South Labour Party councillor Martina Genockey told The Echo: “I’ve been aware of issues going on in this area.
“There have been incidents in the past with the bookies being robbed, cars being burnt out and litter around the shops.
“It’s an issue that the Gardai need to look into.”
A senior garda source in Tallaght said they need specifics in order to successfully carry out action in relation to anti-social reports.
“Often we get anonymous calls and when we get to the location, nobody is there. You’re asking me a negative, it is hard to disagree with a negative,” said the source.
“If people ring 999, the call is recorded. If anyone calls the station to make a complaint we need specifics.”
