Garda Station to get secure purpose built evidence store

A NEW secure, purpose-built property and evidence store is being built on the grounds of Tallaght Garda Station as part of electronic tracking system, PEMS.

PEMS [Property and Exhibited Management System] is an electronic tracking system for property and evidence, with the new build in Tallaght providing full, secure stores for property and evidence in the DMR South Division.

The DMR South Division includes Tallaght, Crumlin and Terenure and their respective sub-districts of Rathfarnham, Sundrive and Rathmines.

The new PEMS facility is the first piece of infrastructure work to take place at Tallaght Garda Station since it opened in 1987, with the new secure building the first brick laid on the grounds of the existing station.

The new store, which will be home to lost/recovered property, evidence and exhibits, will free up a small bit of space within Tallaght Garda Station, but nothing significant for its outgrown workforce.

The PEMS building design is complete and signed off.

Speaking with The Echo, Tallaght District Superintendent Ian Lackey said: “This will be a secure, purpose-built facility on the grounds of the existing station.

“It will also be a divisional store…and will centralise property and exhibits for the DMR South Division.”

Supt Lackey noted how PEMS is a nationwide electronic tracking system.

“The beauty of [PEMS] is if you lost your engagement ring and came into us here at Tallaght, we can search [all stores] countrywide,” Supt Lackey said.

When asked if there was any update on continuous calls for an extension to the existing station in Tallaght, Supt Lackey said, “no update”.
