Gardai renew appeal for missing William Maughan and Anastasija Varslavane
By Simon Walsh
Gardai have today renewed their appeal for the public's help in tracing the whereabouts of 34-year-old William (Willie) Maughan from Tallaght, and his girlfriend, Anastasija Varslavane (20).
The couple were last seen on the afternoon of Tuesday 14th April in the Gormanston area.
In their renewed appeal for information, gardaí said they are seriously concerned for the safety of the couple, and have followed 250 separate lines of inquiry.
Gardai’s appeal for information follows an appeal from the Maughan family in the Echo newspaper last month seeking the public’s assistance in the disappearance of William and Anastasija.
Speaking to the Echo at the time, William’s father Joe said: “Life is very tough on myself, Helen and our kids at the moment, it’s been hell the last six month and we’re living with Willie’s disappearance every minute of every day.
“However, we know that there are decent people out there and I’m appealing to anybody with information to come forward.”
Speaking at today’s renewed appeal Superintendent James Cannon, the officer in charge of this investigation, said: “We are extremely concerned for the welfare and safety of both William and Anna; it is completely out of character for them to go missing in this fashion.
“I would urge anyone with information to contact the incident room at Ashbourne Garda Station on 01-8010600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
You can also contact Crimestoppers on 1800 25 00 25. Calls to Crimestoppers are dealt with in the strictest of confidence.
Callers do not need to leave their name or address. You may receive a reward for information which significantly helps Gardaí in their investigation.
