Gardai seek alleged ATM thief after man leaves €430 in slot

GARDAI are investigating an alleged theft at an ATM machine in Ballyfermot, after a man withdrew over €400 but walked off without collecting his cash.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, suspects a person behind him in the ATM queue at the Bank of Ireland on Ballyfermot Road, may be able to help him with enquiries.

“I was at the ATM at 9am on Friday morning (February 10), and walked off without my money, all €430 of it,” he said.

“If the man behind me in the queue would like to get in touch with me or the bank, that would be great.”

Compounding matters was the fact that the man was using his partner’s card at the time of the transaction.

“Unfortunately, it wasn’t my card, which makes it worse,” he said.

“My baby was sick since Sunday, and my other son fell off a bike, so I’m having an eventful week.”

As of Wednesday, the money hadn’t been returned to his partner’s account.

The man says they have received confirmation from the bank that the money was withdrawn from the ATM at the time, but he is hopeful that CCTV cameras at the ATM will be able to assist gardai with their enquiries.

A Garda spokesman said: “The incident was reported to gardai on Saturday, February 11.”
