Gardai believe the body to be that of Anastasia, also known as Ana, a first year student in Confey College, Leixlip.

She was last seen in nearby St Catherine’s Park on Monday at 5.30pm.

Initial indications are that the girl died violently at the location.

The scene is currently preserved pending a full garda technical examination and the arrival of the State Pathologist.

Earlier this morning, gardai had issued an appeal for information on Ana’s whereabouts.

The appeal described Ana as 5’8” in height, with black shoulder length hair, sallow skin and slim build,  last seen wearing a black hoodie with white writing on it, black bottoms and black runners.

An incident room has been set up in Lucan Garda Station.

Gardai are appealing for assistance for people who were near the Clonee Road or St Catherine’s Park areas from 5pm on Monday.

Lucan Superintendent John Gordon made a particular plea for anyone who might have dashcam footage.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Lucan Garda Station at 666 7300, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111, or any garda station.

The family are understood to be receiving assistance from gardai.

They have have appealed for privacy, particularly with another young child in the family home.
