Gearing up to host first-ever Darkness Into Light event

LUCAN is gearing up to host its first-ever Darkness Into Light event, with the local committee collaborating closely with Gardaí and Fingal County Council to finalise plans.

Scheduled for Saturday, May 11 at 4.15am in St Catherine’s Park, this fundraising walk is set to support Pieta, a leading organisation aiding those affected by suicide and self-harm.

Committee Chair, Cllr Liona O’Toole, stresses the importance of registering early “This is the first time we’ve organised an official Darkness Into Light walk in Lucan so it’s really important that people register in advance so we can plan appropriately for the numbers attending.

“You can register online in just a few simple clicks and can make your contribution to Pieta while doing so.

There will be limited parking available in St Catherine’s Park, so we advise people to walk where possible. Fingal County Council have been brilliant partners and will be managing the carpark for us on the morning.”

Local TD Minister Emer Higgins also sits on the committee and voiced strong support for the event saying “This is going to be a really special event. We’re working hard with Fingal County Council to make sure the route is just right, and we will have the Gardai there to assist us on the day.

Having been a founder member of the Corkagh Walk I’ve seen first hand how much these walks mean to people and it’s brilliant to be able to offer a Lucan option for locals to participate in”.

Residents of Lucan and neighbouring areas, including Leixlip, Palmerstown, and Dublin 15, are encouraged to take part.

Registration is currently open online at darknessintolight.ie. Volunteers over the age of 18 are invited to express their interest by emailing lucan@darknessintolight.ie, with the subject line ‘I’d like to help’.

There will also be Darkness Into Light events in Tymon Park and Corkagh Park.
