Glenmalure blow Blackforge away

STORM ERIN blew into the country on Saturday morning and, in Sean Walsh Park, Glenmalure Rovers cooked up their own version as they blew Blackforge FC away in a blustering second half performance.

The win moved Rovers up to third in the UCFL Division 3, level on points with Glasnaion FC and two points behind leaders Dublin Devils with games in hand.

With the strong wind playing havoc with the ball, there was very little between these two in the opening half and they went in level at the break.

Nathan O’Reilly opened the scoring for Rovers when Ciaran Collins cleverly played him in for a opportunity he wouldn’t miss on 35 minutes, but that was cancelled out five minutes later with a screamer from Fhilipe Silva to bring the sides level as we headed into the break.

Whatever was said during the interval just hit the nail on the head and the home side came storming out, with three goals in the opening ten minutes of the second half putting this game to bed.

Two minutes in and Nick Pavlov delivered a carbon copy of Silva’s effort when he rattled the back of the net from 25 yards, and before the Forge could gather themselves it was 3-1 when Jamie Doyle glanced a header home.

Blackforge lost out despite being level at the break

Two quick goals and all of a sudden confidence rises and passes that went a miss in the opening half began to stick, yes Rovers were enjoying the game.

So it was no surprise when they bagged a fourth through the ever reliant Eoin Leonard, after Collins brilliantly turned two defenders, drew keeper Kian Dunn and laid the ball on a plate for him, with just ten minutes into the second period.

Number five was always on the cards and it was James Wall who was on the mark, but, in fairness, the Forge hit back straight from the kick off through Anthony Griffiths.

Glenmalure took all three points against Black Forge to move into third place in the league in Sean Walsh Park

However there was going to be a magic turn around in fortune for the visitors and Rovers could just relax and see the game out to keep them in contention in this Division.
