Glenview Lodge will provide evening services for over 65s

“It’s an exciting proposition because it’s going to be the first of its kind, certainly in the area, if not in the county.”

Trustus Senior Care are set to reopen Glenview Lodge to provide evening services to people over 65 in the New Year.

Trustus Senior Care, also known as Trustus We Care, will open a new nighttime service at the location, modelled on their current day service and operating Monday to Friday, 4pm to 9pm.

Trustus are a non-profit voluntary organisation that has been serving Tallaght and it’s surrounding areas since 1969, originally named as the Tallaght Welfare Society.

The team have a Day Centre and offer Meals on Wheels, a friendly call scheme and run a charity shop, among other initiatives.

Trustus Head of Governance and Compliance John Warren noted the importance of getting Glenview Lodge reopened and providing services in the later hours for the elderly.

The company’s Head of Governance and Compliance: “In this day and age, we all know that life doesn’t end for people at 3pm or 3:30pm, so there’s a void out there in terms of the evening time and nighttime, and even if you look at the weekends.

“We’re particularly talking here about senior citizens and vulnerable people over the age of 65, so what we’ve looked at here with Glenview Lodge is, how can we do something different?

“And we came up with this idea of an evening centre, which would essentially replicate what you provide in a typical day centre.”

Mr Warren detailed that the team would provide a similar service at Glenview Lodge to the one they provide in the day centre but will tweak it to ensure that it is suited to evening time.

Exercises were one of the examples used to make this case, with exercises centred around winding down for the day rather than alertness and more active types of exercise utilised in the day centre.

The team are looking to recruit for several fulltime positions to help provide the nighttime service, including centre coordinator, care assistants and a driver/caretaker.

“It’s an exciting proposition because it’s going to be the first of its kind, certainly in the area, if not in the county.

“I’m not aware of any other one at this point in time and it represents a huge opportunity to target people who are there, who maybe have little or no social contact in the evening time, on the weekends and would certainly benefit from this type of service.”

Those interested in the roles within the new nighttime service at Glenview Lodge are encouraged to email info@trustus.ie for full specification of the roles.

Glenview Lodge is expected to be in the subject line of these emails and the closing date for applications, including a CV and letter of suitability is Friday, November 21 at 5pm.
