Goals prove vital for Davis hurlers as they slip past Isle’s

THOMAS Davis senior hurlers got their Division Two campaign up and running with a hard-fought 4-13 to 1-21 victory over Erin’s Isle at Kiltipper Road on Sunday.

The home side trailed at the interval by 1- 11 to 3-4 with the goals proving crucial and keeping Davis within-shooting distance.

Luke Dempsey proved a handful for the Davis defence breaking through for two goals while Anto Barrett also found the back of the Isle’s net after a move from midfield.

On the changeover, the teams traded scorers with Bryan Keogh tagging on a couple of well-taken frees from placed balls to keep the Davis scoreboard ticking over.

The fourth crucial goal arrived when Conor Cronin finished a good move to hammer the sliothar to the back of the Isles net.

The visitors rallied after this with a couple of frees but Thomas Davis held firm with Sean Reilly at centre back along with Sean O’Brien at full back and debutant Jamie Palmer at wing back leading by example.

Up next for the Kiltipper side is an away fixture with Ballyboden St Enda’s on March 12.

“Happy with the result.

“We took our goals well against a good Erin’s Isle,” said Thomas Davis manager Richie Horgan.

“We play Ballyboden next and they are a good team so we have plenty to work on between now and then.

“Our target is to get into Division One, that’s where we want to be playing,” added Richie.
