Here’s 5 things to do locally this week
By Mary Dennehy
1.GET fruity and attend a history talk on Dublin’s Fruit and Vegetable Markets. Part of the Tallaght Historical Society series, the talk will be delivered by John Conroy in the County Library, Tallaght on November 10 at 7pm. For further details call the library on 4620073.
2. GO SEE Disney classic Pinocchio in Rua Red county arts centre this Saturday, October 7, at 2pm. This 1940’s classic is showing as part of the arts centre’s weekly family films, which they screen every Saturday. A six month family membership (max two adults and four children) is available for €30. Call the centre on 4515860 or inquire at reception before a Saturday screening.
3. EAT alfresco. The Terenure Village Market is open every Saturday in its new venue in Bushy Park, Templeogue Road. Open on Saturdays from 11am to 4pm, the markets boasts 40 stalls of hot foods, artisan produce and craft. For further information visit the Terenure Village Market Facebook page.
4. EMMERSE yourself and your little Einsteins in Science Week, which is running from November 8 to 15 right across the city. There’s a host of interactive and fun events and workshops planned, which brings science out of the classroom. Visit www.science.ie for a full list of events. One of the most interesting events (at least for the kids) is the LEGO education workshop, while the Entertaining Science Circus Show in IT Tallaght is another that is surely worth a visit.
5. CRUNCH your way through one of South Dublin County’s walking trails, with local parks such as Tymon, Corkagh and Griffeen offering beautiful autumnal displays – and plenty of fun activities for all the family. Visit www.sdcc.ie for park features and opening times.
