Heritage map gets pride of place in Ahern’s pub

A TALLAGHT heritage map will hang with pride on the wall of Ahern’s pub on the Old Bawn Road, after staff were presented with one of the coveted maps by Tallaght Community Council (TCC).
Newly crowned Tallaght Person of the Year, Sinead Tighe, was on hand to present Andy Ahern with the map, which indicates places and buildings of historical interest to help deepen the awareness of Tallaght’s rich and significant history.
Andy Ahern grew up in the pub which was known as The Shamrock Bar before his family bought it in the seventies.
The pub is located on what used to be the entrance road to the ornate Old Bawn House, which was demolished more than 40 years ago and is included on the heritage map.
The map was created by TCC with assistance from a number of volunteers and families that have been living in Tallaght for generations.
